Helping Haiti

Loyola's Chi Alpha chapter worked to raise more than $340 for Haitians who were hit hard by the four September hurricanes. These funds will be used to meet basic food needs, as well as purchasing school supplies for schools and children that lost everything! Awesome!

Who Would Jesus Vote For?

***Edit: 10/18/08 - We ended up not doing this program, as a UNO sponsored program on Sex and free condoms trumped any attention we might have garnered. I'm realizing, again, that fliers do not work for programs like this. We have to be much more creative on campus to stir student interest.
In the meantime, we had a great chat with our faithful group members who are just beginning their faith journey.***

I'm not one to back down from explosive topics if there's good to be had from tackling them. (Sometimes I tackle them out of less idealistic motives... but that's something Jesus is working on in me.)

At UNO this coming Thursday, I'll be presenting a talk we're calling Who would Jesus vote for? Hopefully, we'll do it at Loyola the following week, as well.

This is following up on a talk I gave regarding Christians and Politics at our annual state-wide Fall Breakaway retreat last weekend. I'm excited!

Here's the blurb we're using to advertise this talk:

Change we can believe in!
Country First!

Slogans and advertising, smear tactics, and idealistic visions: The media are full of words, images, reports, and diatribes.
It's an election year.

Presidential politics consume American attention every four years, and each side calls for allegiance to its vision of America's future, of the world's future.

Jesus of Nazareth lived 2,000 years ago, but his words and deeds still haunt our society's moral, ethical, and political debates.

Who would Jesus vote for?

Join us for an investigative presentation followed by Q & A.
This promises to be a night where sparks fly.
Maybe we'll even light a flame to transcend party politics in a hurting world.

Please pray with us that this will be an effective effort at drawing students into dialogue regarding the Lord and Savior of the universe: Jesus Christ!

For those of you waiting on the promised newsletter: I apologize about the delay in posting or getting that newsletter out. It is half way complete, and should go out this week, or early next week.
